Discover Chennai

Chennai is the capital state of Tamil Nadu and the fourth largest metropolis in India. The word ‘Chenni’ means ‘face’ and the story of this fishing village goes that ‘Chennaipattinam’ was named after the famous ‘Chenna Kesava Perumal’ temple which was regarded as the ‘face’ of the city. Formerly known as Madras, the city was one of the first outposts of British East India Company, who took advantage of the prosperity of the era and further expanded its boundaries to what is today the central area of Chennai.

The city is dotted with monuments and temples exemplifying the contributions of the Chola and the Pallava dynasties to the ancient Dravidian civilization. Chennai is home to many old churches and Cathedrals, pointing to the British heritage of over 150years. Chennai is a city still open to the skies, with several vestiges of the rural past intact. A city that adheres to the leisurely tempo of the world of yesterday, but has casually carried forward its values into the humdrum bustle of today, a city that still retains in its folds the charm, culture and courtesies of the ages.
